Farewell…Well..Kind Of...

Our epic trip was coming to a close, so of course we had to ensure we end it off on an extremely high note - by surrounding ourselves with amazing people while enjoying the madness of New York City. We had a brilliant day made up of laughter, eating, drinking and dancing with our good friends from Fela! on Broadway at Bembe in Williamsburg. We wrapped up the night/morning with some self-proclaimed gymnastics-related behaviour, and a 'last' visit to our favourite 5am spot -The Remedy diner on the Lower East Side, where we stuffed ourselves up with pancakes, eggs, bacon, syrup, toast, etc before we set off on the long flight home.

Fela! On Broadway

If there’s one thing we did well on our trip, it would definitely be making new and hopefully lasting connections with some really awesome people. Through Vie and her inviting energy, we met and made friends with a few of the guys from the Fela! musical which is currently on Broadway. It really is seldom that you meet people who touch your heart with beautiful energy and authentic vibes as these guys did. We formed a connection with them immediately, and spent most of our last days enjoying laughs, dancing, drinks and music together.

Being the generous souls they are, they invited us to come and see the show on a day that our good friend Duain was playing lead as the legendary Fela. Some of us had seen the show before, but seeing it again felt like it was the very first time seeing it. The energy, the beautiful music, the beautiful people, the vibrant colours, the “oh my word, thats amazing” kind of dancing made for a stunning experience. There’s just something about this musical that pulls at your heartstrings. Something about this show that makes you so proud to be African.

Thank you dear friends, for this wonderful experience!

Vie's Last Dance

So our girl Vie had reached the end of her road for the Love World Tour NY so she insisted (and we didn't disagree) that we have a night of epic proportions to bid her farewell. We kicked off our night at the dimly lit Dream Hotel basement, a shabby-chic spot where we danced to eclectic beats with the uber cool NY set, model types, and couples who couldn't keep their hands and lips off each other all night.

After a short stint there, we hopped on a cab and went to Avenue, a beautifully decorated club where we danced to a great mix of hip hop sounds. We danced until the lights came on and the music stopped, as usual. At 4am, we still weren't ready to go home, so we accepted an invitation from Vie's new friends from the cast of Broadway's Fela! to party at a secret underground spot in the East Village. This place was very discreet with a large closed door, some kind of secret code to enter, and then we were quietly ushered to an underground area that was blazing with hip hop beats. We partied for the rest of the morning with the cast of 'Fela', and what fun it was! When we walked out, the sun was shining brightly and with heads bowed down, we shared the streets with regular working folks making their way to their jobs. At that point, we knew for sure that the night had been mad real.

Love in this Club?!!!

On to the next one!!
