The heatwave today didn't stop us from hitting those streets and trekking all the way uptown to 155th street - headed to Rucker Park in Harlem. Rucker Park is one of the famous basketball courts in New York, having hosted basketball's biggest names as well as the hottest pick up games, it is the ultimate venue for a fan of pure street ball. When we came out the subway and spotted daisy dukes, doo rags, 40's, oversized white tees, and a lot of gold, we knew we were at the right place. We arrived to an intense queue awaiting entry into the court, and things got worse when an Escalade pulled up, and the one and only Nasty Nas stepped out, coming in for a short appearance and speech related to his album release.
After the madness at Rucker Park we headed over to The Shrine, a space dedicated to Fela Kuti's original shrine, characterized by African beats and gyrating bodies. Needless to say, we shut The Shrine down, but not before enjoying some tasty $5 jerk chicken from a hole in the wall type West Indian shop.

ReplyDeleteOh, how dare I forget to mention how NAS was literally a couple of steps always from us! Now just to go to the concert later this evening! Boom!
